We have some customers who never change a blade in a season and some need our 5 piece blade pack or more. It really depends upon the circumstances of your individual farm.
With a good operator who keeps the blade out of the dirt and cleans the blade area after each use, one could reasonably expect to have functional cutting edge performance for 300-400 lbs (136-181 kg) of greens.

Any 3/8” or 1/2" chuck, 18-20 Volt drill that operates within the 1,500-1,800 RPMs. Drills with faster RPMs can be used, but it causes premature wearing of parts and throws the harvested product out of the back of the basket.
A list of possible brand names is Bosch, Craftsman, DeWalt, Hitachi, Makita, Milwaukee, Porter-Cable, Rigid, or Ryobi.

Some farming contexts such as certified processing areas require extra steps in cleaning the harvester. Sanitizing your quick cut greens harvester for this scenario is a four-step process.
Step 1: Clean the blade and basket area with liquid soap and long-handled stiff bristle brush. Spray with water to rinse.
Step 2: Remove the harvester brush by slipping off the belt and using a 7/16” socket. Dip in distilled white vinegar. Reattach brush to the harvester. Belt routing can be viewed here.
Step 3: Spray distilled white vinegar mixed with 3-4 drops of lemon essential oil on the entire harvester and wipe down metal areas with a cloth.
Step 4: Allow harvester to dry in direct sunlight for 15-30 minutes.

A belt that jumps off of the pulleys can happen for a couple of reasons. Below is a troubleshooting guide to figure out the reason your belt is malfunctioning. We have started with the most obvious and simple items first.
Drill is in reverse. Some times, when you have the drill in reverse, it can pop the belt off. In this case, reinstall the belt and see if it works in the forward driving position.
Improperly routed belt. If the belt is routed improperly, you may find the belt only stays on when you run the drill in reverse. The blade will still cut, but the macrame brush will spin in the wrong direction. The link below can help you properly route the belt. It has pictures attached and a video link as well.
How do I route my belt on the harvester pulleys?
Pulley out of alignment. If the harvester is dropped, an area that can be susceptible to damage is the idler pulley bracket. The picture below can show you how the pulleys should line up and what the bracket looks like. You could try to re-align them, but it is possible the bracket can break off. You would need to send it to our shop and we would make the needed repairs.
. Worn pulley. The drive shaft pulley is the most common culprit when it comes to pulleys wearing. These will need to be replaced around 1800 lbs of harvested greens. The groove can wear down and actually split the pulley in half occasionally. The other pulleys can wear down as too, but they have a much higher use case. The drive shaft pulley receives more wear because it receives a more direct load from the rotating drive shaft. The video below can help with this repair.
How do I replace my drive shaft?
Belt needs replacing. Depending on how the harvester is used and stored, the belt can last around 4000 lbs of greens. The video below can assist with this routine maintenance.

Below are the steps to take when sending a harvester back to Farmers Friend for repair. If your harvester is having problems and is still under the one-year satisfaction guarantee, parts, labor, and return shipping are under warranty. However, the customer is responsible for the cost of shipping the harvester to Farmers Friend when outside of the warranty. We will cover the cost of shipping it back to you.
The Return Box
To obtain the best price on return shipping, you can use the original box if you still have it. If not, we use a 26in x 20in x 6in box. Something close to this in size will help you keep the return shipping price down. By removing the basket rod retainer plates, you can lay the harvester flat. Please include padding such as a newspaper for protection.
Please include the completed Work Order Request form in the box. (download link in sidebar)
If you'd like us to provide a shipping label, write to support@farmersfriend.com or call us at 931-583-0397 with the dimensions of your box. The cost of the shipping label will still be the customers responsibility.

Once Farmers Friend receives and inspects the harvester, they will contact you with the recommended repairs and total cost. After payment is collected the work will start. Finally, we will ship your repaired Quick Cut Greens Harvester back to you.

How long does the repair process take?
The average repair turn around time from when the harvester is received by Farmers Friend is around 5-7 business days plus the time it takes in transit.
What is the average cost of shipping?
The average cost of shipping a box the size we recommend within the continental United States is $25.
From time to time a Harvester has been used to such a degree that repairs are no longer able to be performed. In this case, we will recommend purchasing a new Harvester at a 25% discount.

When getting replacement parts you'll need to know what model you have to get the correct part. The steps below can help you determine what model you have.
NOTE: Five years from the last manufactured unit of a model is when limited support is initiated. Limited support means no unique parts will be manufactured. Parts which crossover between models can still be purchased. Click your model to purchase these parts.
Model #1501
Model #1501 has a couple easy to identify things...
- It has two blades. (One moving and one stationary.)
- The universal drill mount is fairly complicated with u-bolts that loop around the drill to hold it in place.
- This is also the only model that had height adjustment skids.
The model number is stamped into the back of the crank housing block as you can see in the picture below.
Model #1502
Model #1502 is also easy to identify...
- It only has one blade.
- The drill is supported by clamping securely to the drive shaft. A velcro strap holds the drill to keep it from pivoting.
The model number is stamped into the upper drive shaft bearing mount as you can see in the picture below.
Model #1503
Model #1503 is very similar to model #1502, but it has one small difference...
- On the bottom of the harvester, we added a replaceable aluminum slide channel that is held on by two screws. Model #1502 did not have this and we had some problems with the frames wearing out too fast.
The model number is stamped into the upper drive shaft bearing mount as you can see in the picture below.

The two-blade 1501 Quick Cut Greens Harvester will no longer be supported with parts as of September, 30 2018. Parts unique to this model are no longer carried and only existing universal parts will be available (Please see attached table).
The fixed blade guide channel 1502 Quick Cut Greens Harvester will no longer be supported with parts as of March 31, 2019. Parts unique to this model are no longer manufactured and only existing stock will be available.

Hi, I love the harvester! I’ve used mine for several years. This tool has paid for itself time and time again.
I just wanted to add engineering note here. I’ve noticed that the bearings in the blade arm don’t last long. Is there a possibility that brass bushing could be used instead? I’m not sure but I feel like that they would last longer with the moisture that gets in during use and cleaning.
Again, I love this tool. Thanks again for all you all do!
