0:00Hi guys, Jonathan here with Farmers Friend. We're going to do a quick demonstration on how to use Quick Plant fabric to prepare for a growing season
0:08without a bunch of weeds taking over your crops. So, we're going to show you that and if you stick around to the end of the video, we're going to show a little bit of behind the scenes on how
0:16we produce this product and the the process for manufacturing it. Once you have your bed prepped and all of your soil amendments integrated in, you can go ahead and lay down your drip tape.
0:26That's the best way to water. You can do overhead watering, but you'll have to do a lot of additional watering because a lot of the water will run off and not really uh go through the fabric. So,
0:37we're going to just take our drip tape.
0:40We're doing two runs here. We'll run it down the length of our bed and get it spaced out.
0:49You can use some of the landscape staples, the sod staples to uh pin this down and keep them from kind
0:58of drifting. We often times put a staple in at the end of the end of the row just to
1:05keep the drip tape pulled tight and keep it from um pulling back. So once we get
1:11that drip tape laid down nice and straight, we can take our quick plant
1:19fabric and start rolling it down the row. So we'll just roll it all the way down. Once you get the fabric laid down,
1:28you just want to center it up in your bed. And then we're going to be using the landscape staples to secure it into
1:37the ground. Now, if you're inside of a tunnel like this, you might not have to put as as many staples because you're
1:46not going to have as much of a wind problem, but as you can see here, especially if the sides are rolled up, you can still get some cross winds
1:54that'll blow it around. So, you do want to put staples in. We uh we recommend putting staples every
2:02two to three feet. You can use a rubber mallet to make the process of installing the staples easier. Depending on how
2:10soft or how hard your soil is, that may be more or less of a challenge. But that's essentially the process.
2:19Just putting in a staple every few feet to keep it from blowing. And at this
2:25point, you are ready to go ahead and plant your crops. So, the beauty of the quick plant fabric is you already have
2:34your spacing grid just precisely laid out for you. You just can get your fingers in here to dig a hole or even a
2:42triel possibly get in there or a dibbler, put your starts right in and then cover up the dirt around them and
2:49you will have mostly a weed-free uh garden.
2:54You'll have a few weeds that'll come up around the hole sometimes, but that's way easier than having to deal with
3:01weeds on your whole bed. Um, it also retains more moisture, keeps the soil cooler, and it's just all around uh an amazing product to increase yields,
3:13decrease the time you have to spend weeding, and overall make gardening and farming a a better experience. Let's head over to the shop and I'll show you the manufacturing process for Quick
3:22Plant Fabric. The raw material we purchase shows up like this. It's 3500 ft rolls and those master rolls get
3:28loaded onto the desspooling side of the machine. This machine is all developed,
3:34you know, something we've developed over the last uh uh 7 years or something that we've been working on this product. This
3:40is like V3 of the design. And uh the tracking the the dspooler tracks side to side to make sure that the fabric is always going straight into the machine.
3:50And there's a lot of electronics and controls here. This is the the mystery part of the machine, but we're going to give you a sneak
4:03peek. So, it's pretty cool process.
4:06Again, it's all um stuff that we've developed. And then on this end of the machine, we have we call the respooling end of the machine. This is where the
4:14the finished roll gets spooled up. And depending on the pattern, it takes
4:21anywhere from like 7 to 15 or 20 minutes to do a roll. And they get boxed up right here on at location and then taken
4:29over to our shipping area. So the 315 ft and 525 ft rolls are finished here. For
4:36the 50ft and 12ft sections, we have a packaging area over here where we take larger rolls of material and despool it
4:46into um the shorter lengths that we can fold up and put in a box and ship out to you guys. So, lots of quick plant going
4:54out the door this time of year, and we're excited to get you guys growing weed-free gardens.
