Spring Wire and Single Channel Kit (93in)

Our Spring Wire upgrade kit helps turn your Caterpillar Tunnel into a more per­ma­nent green­house solu­tion. Spring Wire allows you to have tighter plas­tic, or help hold down shade cloth on your Caterpillar tunnel. 

In most cas­es, we rec­om­mend pair­ing Spring Wire with our Wind Bracing upgrade kit, allow­ing for increased wind pro­tec­tion, plus elim­i­nat­ing the need for the cone-shaped plas­tic bunch­ing at each end of your tun­nel. This is espe­cial­ly help­ful on urban farms or oth­er sit­u­a­tions where space is limited. 

The Spring Wire upgrade con­tains 93 inch­es of base chan­nel and 93 inch­es of 14 gauge Spring Wire. For typ­i­cal instal­la­tions we rec­om­mend 4 sets, allow­ing for two sets of Spring Wire and single chan­nel on each end bow. If you want the Spring Wire to extend all the way to the ground, you will need 6 sets for stan­dard tun­nels (3 for each end bow), and 8 sets for tun­nels with a lift (4 for each end bow).

Recommended quan­ti­ties for framed-in end walls are as follows:

• 6 – 8 sets (3−4 for the top edge of each end bow)
• 6 – 8 sets (for the door and framing)

For exam­ple, if you put an end wall with doors on both ends, you will need about 18 sets of Spring Wire and single chan­nel. Additionally, because wig­gle wire is expen­sive to ship by itself, we rec­om­mend pur­chas­ing them with a freight order, and padding the amount slightly.

Note: The way you frame in your end and the entry sys­tem you use will affect how many Spring Wire sets you need. Our rec­om­men­da­tions are gen­er­al in nature and ulti­mate­ly the amount need­ed will depend on your plans/context.
